As part of this year's Reunion and Commencement Week activities, the MIT Startup Exchange (MIT STEX) hosted the MIT Alumni Open House on May 29, inviting alumni to explore MIT's innovation ecosystem through startup showcases, entrepreneurship programs, industry engagement opportunities, and resources from across the MIT ecosystem.
The event provided an opportunity for alumni, entrepreneurs, researchers, and members of MIT's innovation community to connect through startup demonstrations, ecosystem insights, and conversations about how MIT ideas continue to create impact far beyond campus.
Representatives from MIT STEX, MIT Venture Mentoring Service (MIT VMS), the Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation, Mission Innovation X (MiX), MIT Proto Ventures, PKG Center, and E14 Fund shared how they support innovation across and beyond the Institute. Together, these organizations illustrated how MIT’s interconnected innovation ecosystem helps faculty, researchers, and founders move early-stage ideas from laboratory discoveries to venture creation, commercialization, and industry engagement.
Alumni also had the opportunity to engage directly with five startups founded by members of the MIT community, each showcasing their work through live demonstrations and conversations with attendees:
Surgicure Technologies— developing a next-generation airway security device to make intubation safer for patients and clinicians alike
Prescient Devices — making it radically simpler for enterprises to design, deploy, and manage complex IoT systems
iQ3 Connect — enabling distributed teams to collaborate in immersive, web-based 3D and VR environments without specialized hardware
Vocadian — using voice AI to detect fatigue in real time, helping high-risk industries protect their workforce before accidents happen
Absco Therapeutics — engineering injectable, image-guided therapies designed to train the immune system to fight solid tumors
Together, these startups reflected the breadth of innovation emerging from the MIT community and the many pathways available to entrepreneurs at MIT. From healthcare and biotechnology to enterprise technology, communications, and digital collaboration, the showcase highlighted how MIT-connected founders are translating research and expertise into real-world solutions.
The event also highlighted the enduring role of MIT alumni in advancing innovation. As founders, mentors, investors, industry leaders, and collaborators, alumni continue to help advance new ideas and support the next generation of innovators. The participating startups—and many of the organizations represented at the event—reflect the continued engagement of alumni long after graduation.
By bringing together alumni, entrepreneurs, researchers, startups, entrepreneurship programs, and industry engagement initiatives, the open house celebrated the collaborative spirit that continues to strengthen the MIT community and extend its impact around the world.
